"The whole set-up of Dean with an angel and Sam with a demon is interesting. It might be a little too religious for my tastes..."

I think it could be a dangerous way to go. When you write about religion, you run a serious risk of ticking off two groups of people: 1. Religious people. 2. Nonreligious people. Basically... everyone. It can be tricky if you're not super careful.

I think it's interesting but yes it could be a dangerous way to go. When things get too overtly religious is when the trouble arises. SPN has had muted religious tones, such as holy water being a weapon, but when the idea of "God" comes up it can be dangerous if you're not careful and adhere to whatever the religion's tenets are while not seeming like you're preaching to the audience that isn't of that religion or who are nonreligious.

For me, anything too overtly religious makes me uncomfortable. Religion makes me uncomfortable in general and it has really since I took a class in terrorism. There was a lot of history about religious terrorism in the class and religion is now rather uncomfortable to me. I prefer notions of "good" and "evil" without the notions of "God" and the "Devil" attached.

You're so right, Elly. It's kind of amazing how skillfully they've skirted the issue up until now. I've read rants online about how the boys shouldn't be using weapons to fight demons at all, but should do nothing more than invoke the name of God. Because that would make for such great television! :) Emotions always run high when the subject of religion is on the table.
