I agree with jeannev that TPTB just don't know what to do with Lana any longer. They've taken her to the brink of whatever might have realized her character and grounded it in some substance: Evil Lana, pathological Lana, scheming Lana, but they inevitably wuss out on any kind of commitment. But they have to keep her on the show: she's one of the "Core 4" (she really shouldn't be, but Clark Needs a Love Interest, I guess--never mind that she's not the only girl in the universe; they think she is) and besides, AlMiles have those permanent hard-ons, and I don't think the CW is much better. The nice think about Comic!Lana in the Silver Age is that they didn't overuse her, which was good, and SV was more like that in the beginning. SV Lana had another boyfriend and functioned as the focus of Clark's teenage yearning both for love and for the normal life he could never have. Plus, she was a great bonding excuse for Clark and Lex! Now, she's just sort of wafting in and out not doing much of anything. Which is better than getting eps like "Trespass," but unfortunately it just makes Clark look worse for letting the relationship continue, no matter what he learns, no matter what he feels or thinks.

I can't remember now if you do spoilers, so I won't mention what I've heard about the rest of the season and next season. But let me know your orientation, if you can!

You know, you're one of the few people who can point out all the stuff on the show that doesn't make any sense without making me feel like an idiot for still being a fan. :)

Well, from one potential idiot to another, let's sit back and enjoy! I still love this show like crazy (though I can't not call them on their crap--I've lost some LJ friends, who don't want to read anything negative about the show, because of this) , even if it's more for what it was and could be than for what it is. I give the lion's share of credit to TW and MR for that--they continue to make me care about Clark and Lex as they navigate the drivel they're given as successfully and with as much spirit and aplomb as they can. They're two very underrated and fine actors.

And I could use a laugh right now, believe me.

Me, too. Let's work on keeping each other amused! BTW, after what you told me, I'm tempted to drop out of sv_renaissance and just do my Saturday scenes on my own LJ. They don't even seem to be putting up that "master post" for Saturday any longer, and if they've issued a comment-moratorium, what's the point?

Which reminds me: I have to pick a scene for today!

There are already spoilers out there for next season?! I don't avoid spoilers, they help me brace myself! :) Honestly, if I didn't find out what was going to happen in advance, and give myself some time to process it, all my reviews would probably be screaming rants about the Clana, and how they're destroying the legend of Superman, one episode at a time. :)

What I do avoid is the spoiler thread on TWoP. Whenever I read it, it's full of doom and gloom and predictions that are based on the worst possible interpretation of the available spoiler info, and I always get super upset over the possibility of things that mostly never happen. I just can't take it, so I stay away.

I also hunt down and watch any clips I can find in advance of the show, which I know a lot of people, even those who read all the spoilers, don't like to do.

I couldn't agree with you more about TW and MR, as I'm sure you already know. :) I think they rise above the writing, episode after episode, and I'm always torn between wanting the show to continue, so I can watch them every week, and wanting it to end, so they can go on to bigger and better things.

I don't think any comment moratorium extends to you. :) I was thinking the comm was just suffering from lack of participation, as many comms do. In any case, you know I'll be there, whatever you decide! :)

Per your comment below, I've actually been wanting to re-watch "Hero," myself. I vote S7 quite a bit better than S6, because I've reasonably enjoyed rewatching most of the eps this year. I've even gone back to rewatching to do the timeline writeups. (Of course, the lack of availability of decent transcripts now is also a factor). Whereas, eps like "Static," "Trespass" and "Promise"...just can't do it.

The spoilers I was referring to is that KK won't be in the final 5 eps of THIS season, and only in the first THIRD of next season. I'm having fantasies of a Clana breakup...for good...

Our idiosyncrasies are funny, aren't they. I hang on the TWOP spoiler thread all the time, although I both know what you mean and agree. However, though very occasionally I will watch the trailers and DCs, I generally prefer not to actually see the scenes until they air.

What drives me absolutely nutso is the rare occasions on which our ep broadcast has been delayed for basketball games or something similar, and everyone else in fandom has already seen and is discussing. No way could I ever just stop watching SV, no matter how bad it got--I just couldn't bear not to know what was happening (however nonsensical). As long as MR and TW (or even just TW) are on the screen, I'm so there!

It'll be a sad day, IMO, when the show finally ends, because we'll lose the thrill of getting something, anything, new, as well as the hope that things'll improve. I'm delighted we have an eighth season, and I hope desperately that TPTB give it their all and make it a good one.

But, yeah, I'd love to see the guys in more stuff. I'm still hoping for that version of the "Odd Couple"...

I had heard that about KK's contract. I just hope that if they do FINALLY end this relationship, they handle it correctly. I don't want a Superman who only loves Lois because he couldn't have the true love of his life, Lana Lang. *gags*

I'm really hoping that they will promote this season as the final one, commit to ending it, and give us that awesome final arc they're always bragging about. This show still has such great potential, y'know?
