Smallville in Entertainment Weekly
Smallville scan from the December 10, 2010 issue of Entertainment Weekly. Click for BIGGER.

I wasn't thrilled when Clark first hinted that he was planning to propose, but I have to admit, this pic won me over. Clark looks so happy! I still say no thank you to a wedding before the series ends, though.

My EW mag usually comes on Friday. Dear God, why isn't it Friday yet?!!!

Sometimes mine comes on Thursday, and sometimes on Friday. It's a great issue, all about the 2020 Entertainers of the Year. There are a couple of pics of John Hamm that are to die for. Seriously.

But I'm asking the same question anyway, because Friday means Smallville!! :)

I admit this is a nice picture. I wonder how they'll explain the raining of rose petals though. :)

LOL! I like that Clark is so romantic, he's such a sweetheart. ♥

It feels rushed to me, too. It's not my preference for it all to happen so fast, but I do think it's in character for Smallville's Clark. It was enough for me to see the rings on Lois's finger in the Salvation teaser, but I've reconciled myself to the engagement in the weeks since Ambush, and, after seeing this pic, I'm even looking forward to it now. I just hope it's good! :)

No more weddings for anyone on SV - I can't sit through another one.

I like Erica's boots.

Agreed! They are a complete waste of precious screen time!

Do you know what one of my first thoughts was after I saw this pic? How much fun the Clex manip artists are going to have with it when the HQ version is released! :)

I'm rather mixed on the engagement happening now. I do wish they could have just explored more about why this relationship with Lois is going to work unlike all the other relationships Clark has been in that didn't.

But I also can't deny that Clark asking, IMO, so soon is in any way something he wouldn't do. It's totally within his MO to think this way when it comes to love and loving someone.

As to the wedding? Eh. I wont die if I don't see it. I think they'll confirm that they did get married in some flash-forward deal in the series finale or something, but I don't have to see the wedding itself.

That's something I would have really liked to see onscreen. But I also agree with you that this totally fits Clark's MO.

I just think the wedding would be a waste of what little screen time we have left, when we all know it's a foregone conclusion. And this engagement is rushed enough; having a wedding follow so closely on the heels of it, and before Clark becomes Superman, would be pushing things too far, IMO.

I never would have believed we would see this iconic proposal on Smallville, but here we are!

My little romantic heart is squeeing on a subsonic level.

How's your back?
tariel22 From: tariel22 Date: December 3rd, 2010 02:43 am (UTC) (Link)
It is a very romantic moment, isn't it? I'm no shipper, but I'm rooting for them right now. :)

My back HURTS. Returning to work today was ill-advised, as it turns out, but I'm still glad I did it. I'm staying home tomorrow, and I plan to spend most of it horizontal.

I've known about the proposal for weeks and I still can't believe it's happening. Who got the writers drunk on Clois Kool-Aid? lol

But I am excited about it because it means happiness for my two fave characters.

Thank you for the great scan! And I'm happy to see you back and I'm sorry you're still in so much pain! *hugs*
tariel22 From: tariel22 Date: December 3rd, 2010 02:51 am (UTC) (Link)
LOL! They are having a lot of fun with their relationship, and I have loved all their big romantic moments. I'll probably enjoy this one just as much. :)

Tom and Erica do a wonderful job of portraying that happiness. I'm thrilled to see all those gorgeous Clark smiles (remember the seasons when we almost never saw one?), and Lois positively glows when she looks at him. The love these two characters have for each other is undeniable.

Thanks so much for your kind words! I need to accept that it's going to take me a while to be 100% again, and try to be patient. I am thankful it's not something more serious.

The funny thing, for me, is that I really wasn't sure how I felt about an engagement when the news first broke. But the more I thought about it the more I realized how much sense it made for Clark.

I think that marriage (and sex to a degree) are such personal subjects and sometimes we have a tendency to project our own personal preferences on fictional situations. And I think that's totally normal. I think what it comes down to, for me, is....does this make sense for Clark? Is this something that he would do? And without a doubt, I believe it is totally in character for Clark.

Clark has always been a man to push forward. He has wanted to be married since he was a teenager. That's a rather rare thing for a guy....but that's Clark. Clark hasn't been dreaming of having a girlfriend his whole life....he's been dreaming of having a wife. He wants to be married. He's made that very clear over the last decade. At this point, he's been dating Lois for over a year. He clearly knows she's the one. And I think it's very in character for him to do something like this. I think Lois will probably be stunned. But I think it's very true to Clark. And really....as long as the show stays true to who Clark is....I welcome whatever comes my way.

I don't need to see a full wedding episode on the show and I truly don't think we will get one. I think what will most likely happen is that there will be a montage of scenes in the series finale showing us Clark's future. And I think part of that montage will be Clark and Lois taking their vows. And that makes sense to me when I consider the fact that Clark's search for his soulmate has been such a huge part of his journey. I could see the show flashing to his vows with Lois and then flashing to another scene in his future etc etc. But I do think that the show will make it clear that they are married by the end. And I imagine DC comics will be supportive of that since it appears they were very supportive of the engagement. DC is firmly in the Clois corner and I think they welcome opportunities to bring attention to this kind of stuff.

And I'm not gonna lie...when I saw the picture...something just felt right about it to me. The fact that it's at the phone booth just really touches me. That moment in "Stiletto" when they had that first conversation...::sigh:: It was one of those moments on the show where I felt I could clearly see and feel Superman. Clark was Superman in that moment. It was a beautiful moment where the potential of love and heroism seemed to come together and everything felt right. And the sight of Clark kneeling in the street, so happy, going after his happiness....just really touches me. Just knowing that he's finally found what he's wanted for so long...and knowing that it's going to last. I guess I'm a huge sap...but man....that really gets me.

So I'm on board. And I can't wait to see it.

I think everyone agrees that the timing on this proposal makes sense for Smallville's Clark. I acknowledged that even as I expressed my disappointment over it in my Ambush review. :) But I can't help but remember that if those other quick proposals had led to true marriages we would have ended up with an unhappily married or divorced Superman. I would have liked to see Clark act differently with Lois (to give his decision to marry her more weight somehow?), but I don't have a problem with the engagement at all.

I don't think there's any need to show their wedding. We all KNOW they get married. But I also know a lot of fans would love to see it happen, so maybe it will.

I just watched Stiletto the other night. I love that episode! I do think the phone booth is the perfect place for Clark to propose, and as I said above, the look on Clark's face in this moment made me want to see it happen. I'm sure it will be a great scene to remember and replay as we endure the long winter hiatus. :)

Clark down on one knee... 'nuff said! *fans self* yes, it's rushed, but there's so little time left...

Even if the engagement feels rushed, it is very in character for our Clark. He knows Lois is the one for him, he has fully committed to her and he wants to belong. The next logical step would be marriage.
I don't need to see the wedding either, there is so little time left and I want that spent focusing on Clark becoming Superman.
Now I am back to staring at the lovely proposal pic, until it is time for sexy Tom in "Luthor" ;)

Very true, and I am happy for them. They both deserve the amazing love they share, and to celebrate that it is forever.

I couldn't agree more!

Thanks so much for the beautiful scan! I absolutely love seeing Clark so happy! The scene looks wonderful and I'm kind of disappointed that I've been spoiled.
