WAY nicer. I don't like General Lane in the comic books I've read at all. My heart breaks for Lois when it comes to her father.

They've definately made him a lot worse in recent years. It breaks my heart too. I'm hoping they don't go that far in Smallville.

Lois and Clark have basically no family at all right now in the modern comics canon. Jonathan is dead. Lucy has gone off the deep end. The General committed suicide. Lois' mother is dead as of Secret Origins.

They have Martha. I guess you could say that Clark has Kara although she's not around very much.

On top of it, they lost their son again. (Although supposedly Chris is coming back in the future.) My heart sort of breaks for both of them right now. They really only have each other. That was one of the biggest complaints that critics had after the World of New Kyrpton arc--that Clark and Lois were so traumatized and devastated and yet the writers didn't realistically deal with how horrible it all was for them. I guess Smallville writers aren't the only ones to try and go "out of sight out of mind" with bad plotlines.

I'm just hoping they can strike the right balance with the General this go round. I'm expecting him to be a challenge for the Blur. I just hope that he can still show some kind of fatherly affection for Lois.

I have most of the New Krypton issues, but I haven't even read them all. I want my Superman on Earth, and with Lois! Their reunion in Superman #700 was so amazing. I wish they'd give Tom and Erica a crack at a scene like that!

Lately I've been totally into BQM's Batgirl. :)

I don't know if Smallville is going for a pre-comics storyline with Lois and her father, that will eventually degenerate further, or if they want to give us an alternative to that bleak future. I'd like to see the General tell Lois he loves her, and is proud of her, but if that doesn't happen, at least we know Clark will be there for her.

Honestly, you're not missing much. There was some good stuff. I liked seeing Lois reunited with Chris. I really like seeing her as a mother. There was also a rather moving issue where Lois wrote a manifesto where she talked about the way that Superman had inspired a new generation of heroes.

Clark was not used well in the arc. He was very rarely allowed to express any types of emotions/feelings. He didn't feel like Superman. I don't want to spoil something that you don't know about yet....but Chris made a beautiful sacrifice for Clark.

I'm with you. I want my Superman on Earth. At the Daily Planet. With his wife. The rumblings are that they will get their son back at some point although I'm not sure when that is happening.

Superman #700 was beautiful. I really loved it.

I'm not sure if you've read #704 yet. It's an interlude that is Lois-centric. I had mixed feelings about the issue but it did have a really beautiful closing scene between Clark and Lois.

I think the key to getting the General right is making it clear that he loves his daughter. He's misguided for sure and it's always going to be heartbreaking because Lois will ultimately always choose Clark. But I'd like to see the show make it clear that this is a father who does love his children. It makes everything else easier to take!

I did read #704. I loved seeing Superman and Lois reconnect in the end. And what he said!

"One of the things that keeps me most connected to this planet -- most connected to the experience of being human -- is waking up next to you. I love you, Lois Lane, and I need you."

...it's always going to be heartbreaking because Lois will ultimately always choose Clark.

I actually hope we see that in Ambush, regardless of what her father does. The OD plays up her choice, and I don't want there to be any doubt that Clark comes first in her life.

But I'd like to see the show make it clear that this is a father who does love his children.

I agree. At least then we would know his heart is in the right place, even if his actions still leave us dismayed

I actually think, based on spoilers, that what Lois decides (whether between teh General or Clark) will take place in Abandoned. Just my spec though.

Everytime I read a Superman comic now I become more and more convinced that Tom Welling was born to play Superman. I don't know how he does it...but he embodies the character so well in strength and humility that it sort of blows my mind. I read comic books now and I think, "These lines are wonderful. But they would sound so much better said with Tom's tender and humble inflection."

It's also made me really reflective and appreciative of how much Erica has brought to Lois. I know you and I talked about it a bit last week. But again, I feel like I read comics and think, "Erica would really give that line beautiful emotion." It's such a tough character to get right and she has done such a beautiful job.

Interruption: Batgirl by BQM is the fucking BOMB. That is all, lol.

I also want my Superman back. I've been having to read old issues to fill the void.
