Hellcats is everywhere!
As the Hellcats premiere date approaches, the publicity machine has kicked into high gear, and I can't even begin to keep up. Here are just a few things I found interesting, but if you want complete Hellcats coverage, visit Hellcats Fans and follow them on Twitter at @hellcatsfansite.

The CW has released some episode stills from 1x01. They're great, but I wish they were bigger. If anyone knows a source for unmarked, hi-res Hellcats pics, please let me know. Here are a few images, see the rest at Hellcats Fans.

Robbie Jones is interviewed by Yvette Caslin for Rolling Out. I didn't know he played basketball for Cal! Go Bears! :) And he's musical, like everyone else in the cast seems to be.

Black Actor Robbie Jones Plays Male Cheerleader: Career Killer?

Robbie Jones isn't afraid of labels. He definitely isn't homophobic, which is one of the main reasons he has taken on the role of a cheerleader in the upcoming CW series "Hellcats."

"My role is Lewis Flynn, a former football player at Atlanta University who has a girlfriend on the cheerleading squad. He was wooed to join the squad [mainly because] he wanted to keep his scholarship. He ends up making the team and enjoying himself," shares Jones.

Jones expresses no worries of being typecast by the role. "Initially I was worried, when I first read the script. The way the character is written, he's quite the opposite of any possible stereotype. Once we got started and I got a chance to hang out with the guys who did this stuff, you'd be surprised, they are [truly] guy's guys," he says.

In reality, Jones loves to play basketball, calling it his "passion." A native Californian, Jones was reared in Sacramento and attended Berkeley University. His acting credits include a stint on "One Tree Hill" and smaller roles on shows like "Southland," which stars Regina King, and "ER," which starred Angela Bassett in its last season.

"I didn't go to Berkeley on a scholarship, I walked on the basketball team and earned one," vaunts the 6-foot-3 Jones. "I am also a musician, a drummer. I've played ever since I was a kid in the church for praise service. I like to stay heavily involved in music."

Jones has been in the industry long enough to be asked, “Aren't you the guy?” by passersby on the street. He shares his secret to getting roles in Hollywood. “I prepare for each role differently. Depending on what type of role it is, I like to capture the essence of my character. If it's a fictional character, I try and get as much information as I can and portray who I believe the character to be to the best of my abilities. Research is also important.”

Aly Michalka talks to Fred Topel for Starpulse.

Aly Michalka Gives Us An Inside Look At CW's New Show 'Hellcats'

The CW’s new series Hellcats takes on the cutthroat world of cheerleading. Even its stars are taking on edgier roles than before. High School Musical’s Ashley Tisdale is a star cheerleader, and Aly Michalka of the teen duo Aly and AJ is a law student who has to join the squad to stay in school.

“I think it was a cool coincidence, and a coincidence I say in the real sense that we both just happened to come from a musical background and the Disney world,” Michalka said. “That was not some genius person's idea where they were like, ‘We are going to cast these two girls that have been in this area before.’ I think it was just something where we happened to be right for these roles, and we happened to fight for these roles really hard.”

Michalka also appeared on Disney shows Phil of the Future. “Just me getting back into the TV world, as well as Ashley, was something that was new to us, and it was a fresh experience, and we were so willing to open ourselves up to that that I think it brought this excitement to filming the pilot. It brought this freshness. I think it just brought this magic that we all really wanted to make this work.”

Tisdale plays Savannah, who may start out as Marti (Michalka)’s rival, but they soon team up to face bigger drama as a team. “I think that Savannah is a team player,” Michalka continued. “If she obviously wanted to be the star of the squad, she wouldn't want to hire Marti to help them out. But I think that she sees that there's something there in Marti that can help their team and help them get to nationals. And there's this connection that our two characters have that I love just because I don't think you would ever imagine these two characters to be friends, but the thing that pulls them together is their passion for what they love to do. For Marti, it's law, and therefore, she needs to be on a squad to get a free scholarship. And for Savannah, it's making it to nationals. So there is that common ground that they share together. Their stakes are really high for the two of them.”

The intense cheer squad routines you see will obviously be set to some fabulous music, but will Marti be called upon to sing too? “AJ would be kind of missing,” Michalka said. “She wouldn't be there. No. I think that it's also up to the writers and the producers as well to figure out how to fit that in. I know that there is a storyline coming up where Marti does happen to perform in a very cool, relaxed, organic setting. So we are ready for that. But my music is very special to me, and I take it extremely seriously. It's something that's sacred, that my career as an actor is separate, but when it's combined, that's awesome, too. So it's all about a balance.”

Hellcats premieres September 8 on The CW.

Carina MacKenzie (@cadlymack on Twitter) from Zap2it visited Hellcats in Vancouver yesterday, and she tweeted from the set.

Headed to the set of Hellcats! Any questions? EVERYONE is there (but Gale Harold, boo).

Watching the Hellcats rehearse their big routine. So many stunts! Aly's stunt double has incredible hair.

Just had a great chat with Ashley Tisdale. Such a sweetheart, always love talking to her!

Wandering the halls of a random canadian high school where the Hellcats shoot. The locker room is creepyyyyy.

Sooo much fun with Matt Barr. Quote from the interview: "I just want him to wrap me in saran wrap."

Talked to Matt Barr about Psycho Derek #oth

As always, Aly is a sweetheart! However, she hates karaoke.

Such a nice day on set today. Everyone is lovely, no divas.

All done on Hellcats! Had such a fun day...

Matt Barr and Robbie Jones were swoon-worthy... Matt's so TALL. And he thinks Jared and Jensen are super cool.

@the_real_winson thanks for everything today! everything went so smoothly and the interviews are really fun :)

@the_real_winson is Winson Seto, a Warner Bros. publicist. He's been tweeting from the set as well, with pics.

We got press yes we do. We got press how bout you! #Hellcats set day 1 ready to rock

Matt Barr in the chair first. Starting to knock out the interviews love it!

#Hellcats in the building! Almost feel guilty this is "work"

For a show with so many bare midriffs, the craft service is pretty official with plenty of chips, candy and delicious tacos #Hellcats

It's a wrap on day 1! Gonna push some furniture around in my hotel and practice some twirls that I picked up today haha #Hellcats

Started day 2 by doing 100 crunches in my hotel first. Now I won't feel as bad around all these cheerleaders #Hellcats

These people are crazy with their moves. You can't be throwing people that high. #Hellcats we major!!

Hellcats "Action":

ETA: A new group shot! Thanks to @MissMarisM, publicist for the CW!

Thanks for the great roundup of all the latest news! I know what you mean about it being hard to keep up, I am struggling, too. Yikes!

I totally agree with cadlymack, though... boo indeed! ;) LOL

Have a wonderful weekend :)

There were at least three other interviews I didn't include, but after awhile some of them all sound the same. These two had insights into the actors I found interesting. Ashley Tisdale's fan base generates a TON of online buzz for the show. I just hope it translates into ratings.

I'm so disappointed @cadlymack didn't have the chance to talk to GH on set. She's a fan, who has watched QAF, and a great interviewer. Maybe she can connect with him back in L.A. at some point.

TGIF! Enjoy! :)

Hi there!

Sorry for being so late replying... just trying to catch up now :)

She really is! I've been following her on twitter for a good while now, and she cracks me up. Love her enthusiasm! Love that she's a fan, too, of course *g*

>Maybe she can connect with him back in L.A. at some point.
That would be fab, I'd love to see her interview him, I'm sure it would be a blast :)

I'm glad the CW can get motivated to promote some shows.

I can't wait to see Gale Harold on TV!

I know! I like how he represents the other side of Marti's life, and how he views cheerleading with the same skepticism she herself once had. It's a nice touch of irony, and it forces Marti to confront the long-term implications of wearing the cheerleader label, while also giving her the opportunity to articulate the positive aspects of being on the squad. I think his character will add true depth to Marti's story.

Thanks for the info. We're getting the show here in Oz in September but no dates yet. Can't wait to see Gale on TV again. Seen a few previews as well and hopefully it will be good.
