Ausiello confirms Tom Welling will be at Comic-Con!
Tom Welling is confirmed for SDCC! Yay! \o/

Exclusive: 'Smallville' Comic-Con deets revealed!
by Michael Ausiello
Jul 7 2010 06:16 PM ET

I’ve got good news for the thousands of Smallville fans making the trek to San Diego on June 25 for the show’s final Comic-Con panel ever: It won’t suck. And here are five reasons why…

* Tom Welling will be there! The show’s leading man and exec producer will be making his second appearance at the Con.

* Welling will be joined by returning series regulars Erica Durance, Cassidy Freeman, and Justin Hartley, at the show’s panel on Sunday at 10 am.

* Showrunners Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson will also be present to answer all your burning question about the show’s 10th and final season.

* Did I mention acclaimed Smallville writer Geoff Johns will be moderating said panel discussion?

* Last but not least: You’ll be treated to an exclusive first look at the season premiere!

Who’s going?!

With all of this joy over Tom attending, I'm still a bit disappointed that Loeb isn't doing the mod duties. Johns is so...not Jeph Loeb.

I know Val shares your concerns, and I have to agree. Jeph was so good at steering the discussion away from awkward and inappropriate questions, and drawing upon his own knowledge of the show to ask wonderful questions of his own. I don't see any of that as being in Geoff Johns' skill set, unfortunately. Maybe Jeph will give him some pointers, though.

Last year was amazing, and I think this year could be even better. Tom returns as a full executive producer, with another show on the network, and we saw at the Upfronts how he charmed everyone and completely ruled the event. He should be happy, confident, and excited to introduce the final, glorious season of this epic story. I can't wait!

I'm not surprised Allison won't be there, but I assume it was her choice. She may have already moved on, at least mentally. She's no longer a regular on the show, and the main focus will obviously be on other characters in S10. I also think that the questions directed at her might reflect her fans' disappointment at Chloe's diminished role in the final season, and prove awkward to answer.

I umm I can't seem to wrap my mind around that

I hope this trip lives up to your wildest dreams. I know you'll treasure every moment of it! I can't wait to hear your take on every ecstatic second! :)

Try not to jump Tommy. They would probably kick you out. ;)

I'd say I was sorry, but you know I'd be lying. :) If it turns out you can record it, I will be eternally and extravagantly grateful, and you will also make legions of other fans incredibly happy. I am not blowing smoke when I say you are the best. It is, quite simply, the truth.

I hope you have a fabulous time on the days you DON'T have to get up in the middle of the night!

I'm so happy! Especially for all my friends who will be there to experience it in person. And I'll have fun hunting down all the goodies here at home. :)

Have a wonderful birthday! I hope you'll be celebrating it in whatever way makes you most happy! *big birthday hugs*

The best news ever! I can hardly wait for July 25th! I'm so mad that I'm not going. The worst part is I'm on a family vacation and won't have internet service on the 25th. :( Now, I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to get my husband to come home a little early. :D It's too much fun being in front of the computer that day, for all the breaking news to miss it.

After last year and now Tom and the CW Upfronts, I can hardly wait for what's in store this year. Just thinking of the pictures, videos, experiences.....

As for Geoff Johns moderating, I'm really going to miss Jeph Loeb. It won't be the same, but I have enjoyed GJ at all the DC Panels at Wonder Con. :)

I would die if I couldn't be glued to my computer for the whole day, waiting for the reports, pics, and vids to come in! :) I have a long list of bookmarked sites from last year, I need to go through them and figure out who to watch this time. I'm just glad the panel is on Sunday, so I don't have to go to work.

Tom was so wonderful at the Upfronts, I can't wait to see him at SDCC. I hope he enjoys himself, and that the questions are good. I've never seen Geoff Johns moderate anything, but I have really enjoyed the audio interviews with him I've heard. He's thoughtful, articulate, and interesting. I just hope he knows enough about Smallville and the cast to both facilitate good discussion and help make the event a positive experience for everyone. Jeph Loeb is a tough act to follow! :)

YAY! Now all we need is for someone to ask him a funny question, like last year. :D
tariel22 From: tariel22 Date: July 8th, 2010 11:08 am (UTC) (Link)
Yes! And for no one to ask him something that makes us all cringe.

Poor, poor gonturan. *giggles*

I really do feel bad for her! But of course I'm thrilled he's going to be there, and ecstatic that she might film it. :)

Geoff Johns moderating. Eh. I wondered who was going to do it since the news came out that Jeph Loeb had gotten a job a head of creating TV show productions for The Enemy - aka Marvel Comics. I figured him moderating again would be too much of a conflict of interest or something.

But Geoff Johns? Nothing against the guy himself, but his knowledge is way more comic-book based than SV based when it comes to this stuff. And yeah, I know he's head of DC Entertainment now, but still.

That said though, I'm so happy Tom's going back! It really makes me tempted to drive down to San Diego and try to go, though I really don't have the money for it. :/ Oh, well, guess I'll just be glued to my computer that day, waiting for updates. :)

The Smallville panel at SDCC was my first thought when Jeph Loeb's new job was announced! :) My priorities are so predictable. I think a lot of people, including myself, share your concerns about Geoff Johns moderating. I keep remembering his commentary for Legion. It was interesting, but naturally it was all about the comics, and how the mythology was shaped to integrate with the show, with not so much about Smallville, the cast and characters, itself.

What really makes a great moderator IMO is knowing enough about the show to ask good questions, enough about fandom to anticipate potential problems, and enough about the cast to know when to protect them, and when to let them do their thing. But maybe I'm overthinking it. Geoff is articulate, intelligent, entertaining, and enthusiastic, and he adds a certain cachet to the proceedings. And who better to spill what DC characters we can look forward to seeing in S10?

I'm so excited that Tom is attending again. He was wonderful last year, and I can't wait to see what he shares with us this time. I will be glued to my computer as well! :)
