Smallville: Tom Welling talks to the New York Post
The CW Upfronts were held at Madison Square Garden in NYC this morning, and Tom Welling talked to the press! I'll be posting any interviews I can find. First up: PopWrap for the New York Post.

Tom Welling: Season 10 will be huge!
May 20, 2010
Jarett Wieselman

News that "Smallville" would be ending next season broke yesterday, breaking fans hearts in the process. But even a CW press release touting the tenth and final season wasn't enough to keep star Tom Welling from telling PopWrap at The CW Upfronts this morning that 2011 might not be the end of Clark Kent's journey.

PopWrap: The network announced next year will be "Smallville's" final season -- bittersweet?
Tom Welling: That’s the funny thing. I’m really excited we have a season 10 – and I don’t want to jump to the sadness of it maybe being the last one. But we actually don’t know. We’ve lasted this long because the of the fans, who knows, if enough people watch this year ... eleven sounds pretty good too!

PW: And Allison Mack will be back, right?
Tom: Allison will be back! Just in a more limited capacity. Don’t worry, Chloe will be a part of season 10.

PW: The show started out with a "no tights, no flight" rule from the creators, but you guys have found clever ways around that over the years. Any feelings about actually seeing Clark slip into red and blue spandex?
Tom: I think there’s always a possibility of that. For me, one of the reasons I’ve felt like the show has been so great is because it follows Clark’s journey into becoming Superman. So if that happens, it will be very late in the season – even possibly the very last thing you see on "Smallville."

PW: What would you like to see next season?
Tom: I’d like to see him get out of the trouble he got into at the end of last season [laughs]. But mostly I’d like to see him with Lex again, I’d like to see Michael [Rosenbaum] back. I think it’d be cool to see Lana and Lois in the same room, that would be very interesting for Clark to be a part of. There’s Justice League possibilities, there’s a lot going on. Ten will be a huge season!

PW: With the possible series finale, one would think you could bring everyone back.
Tom: I hope so! I hope they all feel that way. I’d love to see Annette [O' Toole, plays Martha Kent] back more, Michael McKean [Perry White], John Schneider [Jonathan Kent] – all these guys. They’re all part of the family!

"Smallville" airs Fridays at 8pm on The CW

Tom kills me. KILLS ME! He is such a joker with that season 11 crack. lol

I'm intrigued that he seems more open about wearing the tights and he wants Michael back! YAY! I think he can seduce convince Michael.

I am so amused that he wants Lois, Clark and Lana in the same room. I actually wouldn't object because it would be nice to see but I don't think it's necessary.

He sounds pumped about season 10, which is GREAT!

My favorite thing about all these interviews is how enthusiastic Tom sounds about S10. I love that he's still excited about playing this character, and telling his story. ♥

He'd BETTER be joking about S11! LOL! Seriously, I don't know what that was about. Just reminding everyone to watch, I hope.

I love it so much that he still remains loyal to past cast members, and that he really wants them to appear in the shows last season.

Between that, and the comment he made about Supernatural, I think he's the most adorable thing ever!

Ooh! What did he say about Supernatural?

"We're paired up together again, and one way or another, we're going to save the world." - Tom Welling on SPN with Smallville

And apparently he also mentioned "his friends Jared and Jensen".

How completely adorable is that?! Thanks for letting us know. :)

It's very cool to have an executive producer who truly understands and appreciates what the actors, both past and present, mean to this show. I love that he calls them family, and wants nothing more than to work with those who have moved on one more time before saying goodbye to Smallville forever.

I'm totally happy to have Smallville and Supernatural together again. I'm just sorry Jensen and Jared couldn't be there with Tom onstage.

LOL! I love that he told us absolutely nothing. Clever, clever man!

I honestly don't think he knows much! :) The writers return from their hiatus to start working on S10 on Tuesday, so I doubt that anything much has been decided yet. But as a full executive producer, I'm sure he knows more than he's saying, especially about AM's contract negotiations. He'll have to keep more secrets than ever now, won't he?

*melts* It seems to me that the actors live in a special bubble up in Vancouver, where they hone their craft, make the magic, and have fun with each other, remaining relatively untouched by network politics, worries about budgets and ratings, or fandom nonsense. Even though Tom has taken a leadership role behind the cameras as well as in front of them, and now has to think about all of those things, he's still the same man, who treasures the relationships he has forged on this show above everything else. How can I not love him?

I don't know what to make of Tom's S11 remarks. The announcement that S10 will be the last was official, and his other comments that day confirmed that. Was he caught up in the spirit of the day, realizing anew that he loves his job on Smallville? Was he being the eternal optimist, telling us that anything is possible? Was he reminding the fans to watch, that ratings matter even in the final season? Or was he just messing with our heads? I have no idea! :)
