I truly hope the entire production staff will take inspiration from Salvation as they embark on S10. It was a wonderful example of everything I want from the show.

Beeman left the show at the end of 5x13, Vengeance, and at that point Tom had not yet directed his first episode. When he returned Tom had become an accomplished director, was a co-executive producer, had taken a leadership role on set that never would have been possible while AlMiles were in charge, and had started his own production company with a pilot in the CW pipeline. And I do think he's a whole new man in terms of his confidence, the depth of his experience, and his business savvy.

I honestly don't think Beeman ever underestimated Tom; I think he championed him. I loved what he said to Mairzee Almas, that she shared the last time she was on SHoE:

When I first came on to Smallville, [Greg Beeman] said to me, that Tom has a vertical learning curve. He may not have a lot of experience yet, but he's real smart, and he's paying attention.
