Smallville: Brian Peterson talks to Matt Mitovich for Fancast
Yes, I am the shallowest of fangirls. I have been beside myself with worry over the prospect of Oliver's perfect pecs being permanently scarred in Sacrifice tomorrow night. But Matt Mitovich, who knows where fandom's priorities lie, asked Brian Peterson if Ollie's shirtless days were over:

"'What do you think?' Peterson responds with a laugh. 'No, no…. Metropolis has amazing plastic surgeons.'"

Well, Oliver Queen can certainly afford the best! Now I can watch without freaking out. Whew! ;) I do have one question, though. Is Clark even IN this episode?

‘Smallville’ Preview: Who Will Be Sacrificed?
by Matt Webb Mitovich
Apr 29th, 2010 | 7:34 PM

This week on The CW’s ‘Smallville‘ (Fridays at 8/7c), Tess (played by Cassidy Freeman) breaks into Watchtower – but as a Checkmate agent or Kandorian sympathizer? Whatever her agenda, she is thwarted and then literally entrapped by the superhub’s top-shelf security system, as is Chloe herself.

When Chloe (Allison Mack) realizes that Team Zod is attempting to hack into the Watchtower server and download world-imperiling data, Clark’s right-hand gal is prompted to “make a drastic move,” says the CW.

Considering the episode’s title, “Sacrifice,” one must wonder: Will Chloe be forced to destroy Watchtower in order to save Earth from the Zod menace?

‘Smallville’ executive producer Brian Peterson appreciates – yet must dismiss – the theory that a what and not a who is the titular sacrifice. “No, there is an actual sacrifice,” he told Fancast. “One of our characters is in fact sacrificed.”

While Chloe and Tess deal with their dire predicament, Green Arrow gets embroiled in a brutal confrontation with Zod. The heated face-off leaves Oliver flirting with a flat line and a signature “Z” scorched onto his chest.

Whoa. Forget that aforementioned sacrifice whatnot. Should Oliver somehow survive, will ‘Smallville’ fans have to part with shirtless Justin Hartley scenes?!

“What do you think?” Peterson responds with a laugh. “No, no…. Metropolis has amazing plastic surgeons.”

Hopefully Ollie can hold on, because it sounds like Clark will need some serious backup when ‘Smallville’s season finale rolls around on May 14. Already, it’s been reported that the likes of Hawkman (Michael Shanks), Stargirl (Brit Irvin) and Martian Manhunter (Phil Morris) will resurface in time for a super rumble.

“We have a full guest list,” Peterson acknowledges, previewing the Season 9 capper. “And while I am not able to speak about who survives and who doesn’t, I can tell you that from Zod to Tess to Lois-and-Clark and Lois-and-The Blur to Chloe and Oliver, to the burgeoning JSA and JLA, it is a great bookend to everything we started this season.”

Exclusive First Look: 'Smallville' season finale showdown!

This only looks like a screen grab from Dancing With the Stars. It’s actually a sneak peek at the wet-’n-wild showdown Smallville‘s staging in its May 14 season finale between Clark and Zod. Our money’s on the future Superman, natch, but his nemesis’ dagger is made of blue kryptonite — you know, the kind that strips our hero of his powers — so at least he has a, um, fighting chance.

Hmm I wonder if this is where Chloe learns her lesson because she thought she could control everything, and someone gets hurt because of her machinations. THAT? I could see knocking her back.

Well, she installed the security system, and then gets trapped by it herself, although I'm not sure what the fallout of that might be. Does she send Oliver to confront Zod, knowing he doesn't stand a chance? I can't really see that. I'm assuming Oliver chooses to sacrifice himself, but I don't know why.

I think (from the promo pics) that we know that an injured Oliver and Tess are being held by Maxwell Lord in the episode after this one, for whatever that's worth.

I don't think she sends Oliver, but I do think, she thinks she can handle the fallout, and prseumably realises that she can't.

I am curious to see what happens. I wonder, after BP's big buildup, if the events of sacrifice will actually impact Chloe in any significant way. And I don't mean by making her realize she's in love with Oliver. :P

I'm interested to see the story Justin and his writing partner created, and I've never met a BQM script I didn't like. So color me intrigued, but apprehensive about a dearth of Clark.

Oh yes, I'm taking these spoilers with a large pinch of salt, but IF the producers intend for me to take her seriously as hero, she has to have a moment where she realises the ramifications of what she's been doing.

And since a lot of Chloe does, is heavily influenced by her heart, it's no wonder that it's Oliver in danger.

legendsinlove just reminded me below that we see Tess "die" and then Chloe bring her back to life in the trailers for this episode, so she must be the sacrifice. I can't imagine Chloe shedding any tears over Tess, though. Hmmm.

you know what bugs me about that webclip??? Ollie. I'm presuming that Chloe knows that Zod's got you know powers and thereforeshe should have told the rest of the gang? So umm. What was he thinking?
tariel22 From: tariel22 Date: April 30th, 2010 09:48 am (UTC) (Link)
I know, that's what made me think he was sacrificing himself before. Clark and Chloe must have told Oliver about Zod getting powers. But then why wouldn't he go in with a big hunk of kryptonite? I guess we'll find out tonight! :)

I was sort of bugged that Clark only seems to count when his name (or secret identity) is connected to Lois. Call me crazy, but shouldn't he be more then Clark-and-Lois or The Blur-and-Lois?
tariel22 From: tariel22 Date: April 30th, 2010 03:03 am (UTC) (Link)
Of course I had the same thought. I swear BP thinks everyone who watches this show is a shipper of some kind. At least Al Septien has made it sound like Clark is much more than one half of a couple in the finale, and he actually co-wrote it.

And Bryan Q. Miller promises Clark is in Sacrifice, "doin' stuff," whatever that means. I'm still hopeful.

The perfect man-boobs will rise again!

“No, there is an actual sacrifice,” he told Fancast. “One of our characters is in fact sacrificed.”
I'm confused - I thought the death was happening in the finale?

Callum B. looks like he's broken character to giggle with Tom in that still!

tariel22 From: tariel22 Date: April 30th, 2010 03:09 am (UTC) (Link)
Yay! You of all people KNOW how relieved I am about this. ;)

I guess the sacrifice isn't death. It's perfect pecs. *nods*

I think he looks like he's giggling, too! I don't get why Zod would want to use a Blue!K knife. Alia did the same thing when she fought Clark in Savior; she exposed both of them to Blue!K. I didn't understand it then, either.

I know! Is the sacrifice only that someone is willing to die? Or are Jeff the Intern's days numbered?
legendsinlove From: legendsinlove Date: April 30th, 2010 07:12 am (UTC) (Link)
I can't remember if I saw it in a promo or still but doesn't Chloe try to revive Tess? I'm guessing Tess "sacrifices" her life to shut down Watchtower and prevent the Kandorians from getting the info. Or Chloe sacrifices Tess to do it. Either way, Tess temporarily bites the bullet.
tariel22 From: tariel22 Date: April 30th, 2010 08:52 am (UTC) (Link)
Ooh, you're right, I totally forgot about that! In the trailer for Charade that also has clips from Sacrifice, first we see Tess collapsing to the floor in front of Zod, and then Chloe's doing that patented Smallville move (stolen from Pulp Fiction years ago) where she plunges a giant syringe into Tess's chest. Thanks for remembering that!

We see the syringe shot again in the trailer for Sacrifice. I added both trailers above.

ZOMG!!! WET PRETTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So if Bryan just said something you like, does that mean that Monster!Supes has lost his snack food?
tariel22 From: tariel22 Date: June 8th, 2010 11:19 pm (UTC) (Link)
See, even the first sneak peek had you intrigued! ;)

As I'm sure you already know, I'm pretty happy with the writers and producers of Smallville at the moment. :) They would do well to keep Monster!Supes in mind as they embark on S10, however.

Beware the awesome anger of MonsterSupes, Smallville writers! CHOMP!!
