Getting excited about my returning shows!

With all of last season's DVD sets starting to arrive in my mailbox, I'm watching all my favorite shows and getting pretty excited about the new season!

1) Shows I can't wait to have back:

a) Smallville - I know a lot of viewers are bitter about the direction this show has taken, but I still really enjoy it, in spite of my own frustration with the writers and the showrunners. Tom Welling is beyond gorgeous, I think he's a great actor, and I like that he seems like such a nice guy in real life. I would tune in just for him. I also love Allison Mack. I think Erica Durance is pretty fun, and I hope Justin Hartley comes back - I liked seeing Clark interact with another guy, one who seems to have the hero thing down. I wish Lex were still on the show - I used to love him! *tongue is firmly in cheek*

b) Supernatural - The most underrated show on television! There is such fantastic acting and storytelling going on in this show, I don't know why more people aren't watching it. Is it the genre thing? Anyway, I can't wait to be on the edge of my couch in the dark, experiencing the funny, the scary, the heartbreak, and above all else, the pretty. *is shallow* For me, my enjoyment of the show is made all the better by knowing Jared and Jensen are so close in real life.

c) Friday Night Lights - A treasure of a show, with so much perfection in it, and it's so real. I resisted for the longest time ("but I don't like football!"), but finally got the whole season on iTunes, and was blown away. Wonderful cast, phenomenal writing, and it's not really all that much about football. Also? I LOVE football!

d) The Office - My kind of comedy, and working in an office, I can totally relate (although we don't have anyone as cute as Jim at my work!). It's painful and uncomfortable and hilarious and sweet, all at once. Originally I didn't watch the first season, because I was a snob about liking the British version. Then I bought the DVD, and now I like the American version better than the original. It makes me squirm less, and laugh more.

e) Heroes - This is the show Smallville wishes it could be, if it had a behemoth budget and none of the restrictions of having a comic book icon as its main character. I miss Greg Beeman on Smallville, but I'm glad he grabbed the opportunity to make something as amazing as this show. The actors are such a great mix of my favorites from other shows and awesome new stars. This is a show that actually pays off, where stories are resolved instead of dragged out, and where week after week I gasp in surprise and disbelief at my television screen. I can't wait for the new adventures! Oh, and did I mention the pretty?

2) Shows I watch but am somewhat meh about:

a) Lost - I love it, I hate it, I love it, I hate it. When last season ended, I loved it a lot again, but now it doesn't come on again until when? February?

b) Grey's Anatomy - Although I love a lot of the actors, I hate most of the characters! *g* I never watch it live because I'm watching Supernatural, but I usually catch up on iTunes. Sometimes I think I just watch it so I can talk about it at work. Meh.

c) Ugly Betty - I like everything about this show, but it just doesn't compel me to watch for some reason. I also get this on iTunes, because I watch Smallville when it comes on, and I'll go weeks without catching up. Maybe it's the fashion industry setting? My favorite characters are Marc and Amanda, and I've always been a big fan of Vanessa Williams. I don't know. It's a meh mystery.

3) Shows I'll miss: Gilmore Girls, Veronica Mars, Stargate SG-1, The Dresden Files

4) Shows I just discovered on DVD and love so far: 30 Rock, How I Met Your Mother

5) Shows I can never remember when they're on so I buy them on DVD: Monk, Psych, Stargate Atlantis, Entourage, Scrubs, The Dead Zone

6) Show I'm watching for the first time on DVD: Farscape *loves*

7) Show I'm watching for the first time on DVD next: Doctor Who (Number Nine)

So, did I mention I love television? What about you?
