Since Allison Mack is still under contract, even if Chloe dies would AM maybe stick around as another character? (ie a Fred/Illyria scenario?)

I think people with contracts get written out of shows all the time, and whether or not they're still compensated would depend on the specifics of the deal they had in place. But after pondering this all day, I don't think either Chloe or Lois is going anywhere.

Chloe is Clark's best friend, and Allison is an immensely talented (IMO) actress who is both adored and respected by everyone who makes this show. I just can't imagine they would let her go, especially after working so hard to keep her when her contract expired. I just kind of panicked before. :)

And Lois is Lois Lane. I just don't think they're going to mess with her, no matter how far off the reservation they're going with other storylines. I don't know if they plan to use her more in S9, or if she'll remain an occasional presence brought in to hint at Clark's future, but I think she'll definitely be around.

So I can only conclude they're going to kill off someone I never anticipated, someone who is part of comics canon. But in light of the recent interview with the DC rep in which he basically said Smallville was an Elseworld, I guess that's absolutely possible. I wish they weren't killing off anyone, quite frankly. Character deaths always seem to be a gimmick to create buzz and drum up ratings, and the payoff is rarely worth the price. But hey, I'm just thrilled it's not Clark! \o/
