Smallville: Tom Welling confirms S10 will be the last!
New pics, Tommy at the Upfronts, and now this? All my dreams are coming true today! Hollywood Life is reporting that Tom Welling himself told them S10 of Smallville will the last!

EXCLUSIVE! Bye, Bye ‘Smallville’ — Tom Welling Confirms Season Ten Will Be The Show’s Last!

It seemed like Smallville was superhuman, but the long-running CW show has finally found it’s kryptonite in cancellation after ten seasons!

Despite the fact that he plays Superman, Tom Welling never expected his series, Smallville, to last as long as it has. Even so, he confirmed that it’s finally time to hang up his cape!

“Season 10 of Smallville will be the last season” Tom told HollywoodLife.com exclusively at a party for Jerry Weintraub’s new book, “When I Stop Talking You’ll Know I’m Dead” at Barney’s in Beverly Hills, Calif. May 18.

The 33-year-old actor also revealed what super acting skills he’s had to learn in order to pull off his Clark Kent character for so long. “The real test is when you own it onscreen,” Tom told us. “Once you think you have perfected things, you’ve got to keep practicing. There is always something to learn! It works for me and it will work for others”

It’s definitely sad that Smallville is coming to an end, but at least we have one more season to see Tom morph from geeky-cute Clark into studly Superman, look super-hot in Spandex tights and watch him fall in love with Lois (Erica Durance).

I am happy, and at peace.

Now, its up to TPTB to make this last season to very best Clark season ever!!!

And thanks Tom, for being a straight up, no bullshit guy. Love U

My feelings exactly. This is such good news!

I hope Tom has a vision for the last season, and that his voice will be heard in the writers room. I trust him to do right by Clark.

I love him so much for being so straightforward. Is THIS why he went to that event? The timing is perfect. Get it on the record before the Upfronts.

I'll hate to see it go, of course, but understandable. It's bittersweet.

Now he just owes us more shirtless time.

I don't know how I'll survive without him on my TV screen every week, but it's time. And ten years, a solid decade of Smallville, is a great number to go out on.

Lots more shirtless time by my reckoning! :)

Now they can plan out the entire season right from the start, with no more stalling and no more uncertainty. If they do it right, S10 has the potential to be phenomenal.

I don't know much about Hollywood Life but you can be sure every reporter will be jumping to confirm this tomorrow!

I've never heard of them before, but it certainly sounds like it's true!

I'm worried we'll never see Tom act again, but I still think it's time to wrap up this story. Now let's make this last season the best one yet!

OMG! So many Tom-related news in the last 24 hours! I don't know if I can take it! :D
I'm glad that Tom went ahead and said the truth. Way to go Tom!

The Tommy news just keeps on coming! And there will probably be even more tomorrow, plus pics!

I'm so glad they're calling it the final season right from the start. I'm excited!

Is it crazy that I'm happy because Tom was the one who announced it?? I'll miss it, of course and especially Tom as Clark Kent but I'm happy with the news. Thanks for sharing!

I'm thrilled that the news came from the man himself. Now I want an interview where he tells us what we can expect from S10!

I'm relieved and a little sad at the same time. Although, if I knew Tom would attempt other acting things after this, instead of producing/possibly directing, that might help.

If I knew Tom intended to make movies after Smallville, I wouldn't have a care in the world right now. I just hope he continues to do it ALL: act, direct, and produce.

This is great news!! I love that SMV was revived from its slump and now it can go out with a bang. And whether true or not, I give Tom credit for the show's about-face this season. We saw him really step-up on-screen and I can only assume he did the same off-screen. I do take a little umbrage with this report referring to it as a "cancellation." A planned ending to a show is not cancellation, it's good sense. But that's a minor thing compared to the confirmation that we'll get a season with all the stops pulled out. Now, here's hoping they get an adequate budget to do it up right!
tariel22 From: tariel22 Date: May 19th, 2010 09:29 pm (UTC) (Link)
I honestly believe that if Tom didn't put his foot down and say that this was it for him, TPTB would try for another season, which I don't think they would get, and the fans would never get the final arc they've waited YEARS to see. So YAY for Tom!

I, too, give Tom a lot of credit for the changes we've seen this year, and Al Septien confirmed via Twitter that he is heavily involved behind the scenes. He is not a producer in name only.

I feel the same way you do. And 10 years seems like a great number to go out on. A decade of Smallville! Wow.

They need to start mapping out S10 now, and be sure to make it a amazing! :)

LOL, it's so ironic that as much in love with Smallville I am, when I saw this I said "YES!!!" I think it's the nature of this particular show that has an end game that we know is supposed to happen and finally we'll get to see it. And this means that they have to pull out all the stops in Season 10 so it could very well be the most spectacular season ever.

I think that's so true. There are certain expectations we have for Clark's story, and it's so exciting to think about seeing him hit all those iconic touchstones. I think that's why we all loved Salvation so much, it gave us a taste of that. They pulled out all the stops for that episode, and the result was something incredible. Granted, I know we don't have Beeman on staff, but we have a lot of other awesome directors and writers. I think given the freedom to go for it, they'll more than come through, and I know the actors will deliver. I can't wait to see it!

Hello, lurkergirl here.

Please go here http://www.deadline.com/2010/05/smallville-to-end-next-season/

and leave a positive message about Tom and the show. Sooner or later, the trolls will show up to tear both down. Before that happens, it would be nice if Tom got a lot of love. "Deadline" is an industry site, so lots of VIPs could be positively or negatively influenced in their opinion of Tom. Please also spread the word to leave a post there.

Thank you.

Hi! *waves*

Done! I hope what I posted is okay. I'm always nervous about venturing outside my LJ comfort zone, and the people who comment on that site in particular can be MEAN. :)
